Strike day action 2014

In June 2014, local government workers were balloted on the proposal of a 1% pay rise, which in real terms actually equates to a 20% pay reduction.

As a union we decided this was NOT acceptable. Not only do we work tirelessly to ensure the smooth running of the country, we are the people most adversely affected by the economic crisis. We will not stand by and watch our jobs be cut and our pay be cut whilst we work harder and longer hours!

On the 10th July 2014, Unison and its members took strike action against the proposed changes to pay for local government workers. Over one million public service members across the country were reported to have gone on strike in a united stand against the unacceptable and unfair changes.
